What I am seeking is not the real

and not the unreal but rather the unconscious,

the mystery of the instinctive in the human race.

"Artist Richard Hawk paints strong, bold, direct female images that leave a visual imprint. A Rich Hawk painting is independent; you recognize it and you remember it. His works are full of new ideas that confirm that breaking free is a creative statement. As an artist who is well-trained in design principles, Hawk can leave tradition behind and explore the virtues of shape from his point of view. He is a figurative painter who celebrates the energy of drawing lines."

"I recently got my first Hawk original... for the deep and vulnerable places it touched the viewer. This work takes you within both the feminine longing for transcendence and physical beauty... You get to translate and you know it’s partly your own story. His subject is everywoman exalted."

Kate McCavitt, Artist/Collector

"There is an intuitive quality that the artist is listening to and responding to internally, to put paint down in a very exciting way. There is a linear quality as well... It certainly is a very important element of the design composition. This painting is done in an opaque water medium, a combination of media and what is important is the technique of the way it is put down. The element of the shift of the figure in the center facing out to the right, countered by the smaller figure that is lower, facing out to the left, becomes a very dramatic and unusual way that the composition is put together. The vertical stacked forms, the thin vertical also becomes a dynamic interesting shape. Beautiful movement and wonderful color! The reds repeated, the yellows and blues move in a beautiful way. Strong black becomes a strong element in the color theme."
